SAINT-CHARTIER CASTLE

Restored in the late nineteenth century, this fortress built in the xiith century was owned by the princes of Déols and the lords of Châteauroux. Part of the building was rebuilt in the fifteenth century, whereas in 1810 the Count of Chabrillan had the roofs removed so as not to give asylum to prisoners suffering from typhus. " It's a fearsome manor mansion that is very habitable, but it's devoid of furniture… it's the strongest in the province and it served a long time for the princes of the Lower Berry " (George Sand, History of my life). Ancient parts have been preserved, the walls of the enclosure with the interesting remains of a gallery body of the fifteenth century and the communes overlooking the village square. Nice building to see from the outside.
