Old vineyard of the abbey of Bourgueil producing wines of monocépage on the right bank of the Loire.
This ancient vineyard has evolved around the Abbey of Bourgueil. It covers an area of about 1,150 hectares with an average production of 70,000 hl, including 1,500 to 5,000 hl of rosé. Like Chinon and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil, it is a single-varietal wine, Cabernet Franc, although Cabernet Sauvignon, which is not widely used, is allowed up to 10%. The wines are produced on the right bank of the Loire, first on the gravelly to sandy terraces, then climbing towards the hillside on clay-limestone soils.
