Visit the collegiate church of Candes-Saint-Martin, a place of pilgrimage where the famous Saint Martin died in 397.

It was on the site of this church, a Romanesque chapel, that the patron saint of Tours, the famous Saint Martin, died in 397. It is then that Candes becomes a place of pilgrimage. Gothic style, the collegiate church which dates from the 12th and 13th centuries was fortified in the 15th century. It is one of the rare churches with a defensive vocation that can be found in Touraine. Among its curiosities, a capital carved with the heads of three revolutionaries: Robespierre, Marat and Danton. A place not to be missed in one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France!

Candes St Martin
