Castle with enclosed vegetable garden in Candes-Saint-Martin offering a breathtaking view of the confluence of the Loire and Vienne rivers
The domain of the castle of Candes and its Street Art Park, one of the jewels of the territory, dominate the village. You are invited to take a walking tour through a 5 hectare park. The map given with your ticket allows you to locate the works of street art presented. Since its inauguration in 2019, this Street Art Park has hosted the works of over thirty artists following residencies. It is an original experiment that confronts urban art and nature, heritage and contemporary creation. While walking along the main path, you will discover about fifteen monumental works of art, each with an explanatory label about its creator. A QR code leads you to his biography. Halfway along the path, a work of land art invites itself. When you reach the terrace of the castle, the high point of your visit, you will enjoy a unique view of the confluence of the Loire and Vienne rivers and the collegiate church built in honor of the monk Saint Martin who gave his name to the village. The terrace itself houses two works, one by Artof Popof, the other by Alan Reullier. Continue the visit by walking through the two centuries old yew trees and the rose garden, in the upper part of the park, which still houses about fifteen works of street art. You will come across an arena, unique in Touraine. We imagine that it was used for animal fights. It has been invested in 2019 by the artist Popay. Nocturnes and shows.
