Pierre & Bertrand Couly, a family estate rooted in the Chinon region
Domaine Pierre & Bertrand Couly is located in Saint-Louans, a stone's throw from the Indre-et-Loire commune of Chinon. This picturesque hamlet on the banks of the Vienne enjoys ideal conditions for growing vines, with tuffeau soils typical of the Loire Valley and hillsides that take full advantage of the sun's rays.
Pierre and Bertrand Couly, father and son, perpetuate a winegrowing heritage that dates back to the 15th century. The family history blends with the exceptional character of the terroir to create the grand crus of the Chinon appellation. As a reminder, this terroir was recognized for its exceptional value as early as 1942.
At Domaine Pierre & Bertrand Couly, the emblematic grape varieties of Chinon - Cabernet Franc for the reds and Chenin Blanc for the whites - are meticulously cultivated. The grapes are harvested by hand to select the best bunches. Fermentation takes place in wooden and stainless steel vats. From vine cultivation to bottling, respect for nature and terroir guides every stage in the transformation of grape juice into wine. In fact, the estate has been awarded the HVE (Haute Valeur Environnementale) label for its use of techniques to care for local biodiversity.
Today, the estate offers tours of the vineyards and cellars, and of course, tastings of red, rosé and white wines, crémant rosé and grape juice. You can also take part in workshops focusing on the senses and the work of the vine. The discovery of this fabulous estate and prestigious terroir also includes a range of fun activities.
