VOIE VERTE CHINON-RICHELIEU
Inaugurated in 2018, the greenway linking Chinon to Richelieu is now part of the local landscape. This former railroad track, converted into a bicycle and pedestrian path over 20 km long, can be walked from Chinon to Richelieu or in the opposite direction. Punctuated by 5 interpretation stations with picnic tables and educational panels on viticulture, heritage, Rabelais, fauna and flora, and gastronomy, it is a very pleasant and interesting itinerary. This greenway offers beautiful views on the pond of Assay (sensitive natural space) and on the vineyards. You continue along the Veude in a bucolic atmosphere crossing cyclists, runners, walkers, solitary or in family. There are also three rehabilitated train stations along the way. You can stop at the one in Coutureau (WC, water point, picnic tables) where directional signs indicate the routes and loops for bicycles nearby, linked to each other by the greenway. You can buy fruits and vegetables at Jean-Paul Buffeteau's, a market gardener located in front of the Champigny-sur-Veude train station. On Friday evenings, a food-truck serves excellent couscous. Two train stations have been more specifically rehabilitated to welcome you:
Le gîte de la gare de Ligré-Rivière transformed into a group gîte (see section Lodging).
Le Bout du Monde, in Richelieu station, a friendly place to have a drink, a snack, or even to attend a concert.
