A discovery of the history and the richness in biodiversity of a natural site of the Camp of the Romans through a horseback ride.
Rendezvous at the Romans' camp in the commune of Cinais! On the heights of the village, this wooded plateau of 25 ha invites you to walk along a marked nature trail of 4 km (about 1h30 walk). Marked out by a dozen informative terminals, it reveals the history and the richness in biodiversity of this natural site. A plateau strewn with stone blocks, this Roman camp - unless it is a Gallic camp - reveals its secrets and mysteries. It is a remarkable place which offers an extraordinary biotope, between moors with heather and gorse, coppice of oaks and chestnut trees, refuge of numerous wild species, sometimes rare. But what characterizes the landscape, they are these blocks of stone which scatter the wild moors. They are the remains of a Roman oppidum. You can also observe on this wild plateau more than 25 species of heather which compose a flowery moor in any season. The literature brings its light with the character of Gargantua. François Rabelais was probably born nearby, in his family's field house, la Devinière (Seuilly). Perhaps the site of the Roman camp inspired him "this camp of Brûlevieille" where Gargantua had some of the dead of the Picrocoline Wars buried. In addition to the pedestrian path of discovery of the Roman camp, it is possible to follow other itineraries to discover the site with the equestrian and mountain bike walk "In the footsteps of Rabelais" deployed on 23 km cumulated within a preserved nature.
