A fun way to learn about wood production and forestry.
The forest environment is one of the characteristics of the territory and walking there is one of its pleasures. In the heart of the forest of Chinon, the natural area of La Pomardière is a superb nature destination (picnic area). Starting from the church of Saint-Benoît-la-Forêt, an interpretation trail (4.5 km/2h walk) crosses the site of La Pomardière, allowing you to discover in a playful way, in 10 steps, the production of wood and the forestry exploitation. A short hike to do with the children. You become the leaders of an exciting journey to discover the natural heritage. For a more sportive walk, you can also follow an 11.5 km trail (yellow markings) that will take you to discover the forest of Chinon and the village of Saint-Benoît-la-Forêt. By taking the 7.6 km and 11.5 km trails (yellow markers), in the undergrowth, you will discover majestic oaks and follow the Lac-Mort stream that winds through the bottom of the valley. At the interface between the meadows and the forest, the site is composed of two different natural biotopes that make up an environment rich in biodiversity. Be attentive, you may observe squirrels or a deer, or you may hear the song of a long-eared owl. The forest of Chinon is home to five main species that are easily observed: maritime pine, Scots pine, sessile oak, pedunculate oak and beech. The forest management of this communal site is ensured by the Office National des Forêts.
