CHÂTEAU DU COUDRAY-MONTPENSIER
Fourteenth century castle flanked by several buildings and provided with beautiful gardens, viticulture activity and receptions on site.
This majestic building with its castle flanked by several buildings and its sumptuous gardens marks the landscape and you can admire it from afar. Built in the 14th century, it underwent an important enlargement and embellishment in the 15th century. Then, in the 17th century, new outbuildings were built in the bailey. Finally, in the 18th century, stables were added. At that time, the architect Aujubault designed a magnificent garden arranged in compartments. In 1930, it became the property of Pierre-Georges Latécoère, a French entrepreneur and pioneer of commercial aviation, and benefited from a major restoration orchestrated by an architect and their landscaper who saved the gardens. Long forgotten afterwards, this historic monument and its park owe their survival to a passionate doctor, the surgeon Christian Feray, who bought it in 2005 when, following complicated inheritances and divisions, it had become the property of the City of Paris. Christian Feray's objective was to create a place of choice for culture, tourism and gastronomy. Rehabilitated as a hotel and high-end restaurant, a function he kept for a few years, it became famous. Finally, this vocation came to an end and the Château du Coudray-Montpensier changed direction. It is now more oriented towards renting rooms for weddings and other receptions and concentrates on a wine-making activity.
