La Maison de Pays, a gourmet and artisanal store in the heart of Seuilly Abbey.
La Maison de Pays is located in the tithe barn at the heart of the magnificent Seuilly Abbey. This ancient priory, founded by Guillaume de Montsoreau in 1095, became an abbey in 1100. Partially destroyed by fire in 1461, it was rebuilt by Princess Jeanne, bastard daughter of Louis XI. In this exceptional setting, sheltered by the old stones, you'll discover a boutique with a wide range of local gastronomic specialties (poires tapées, rillettes de poissons de Loire, walnut oil, fine charcuterie, Chinon wines, cookies, sweets...), a selection of handcrafted creations and a few historical works. A large adjoining room also houses an exhibition of works of art (paintings, ceramics, glass engravings, etc.). Finally, a bookshop featuring historical works on the region also attracts visitors. And don't miss the lovely terrace where drinks and light snacks are served. Free admission to the site. In summer, take advantage of the abbey's cultural and sporting events, including mountain biking and hiking trails, and guided tours of the Rabelais museum during an operetta stroll. In winter, the Maison de Pays organizes its medieval Christmas market, another culinary and craft event. Leaving the Jardins de l'Abbaye, take the interpretation trail "In the footsteps of Rabelais the botanist" to the Musée Rabelais, 500 m away.
