BEAUNE FOUNTAIN
Still-functioning fountain built in the century by Bastien and Martin François, nephews of the famous Michel Colombe.
Built in the 16th century by Bastien and Martin François, nephews of the famous sculptor Michel Colombe, this fountain was first moved to the Place du Grand Marché in the 18th century. In 1958, it was finally relocated to the ruins of the Hôtel de Beaune-Semblançay, a building almost entirely destroyed during the bombing of Tours in 1940. At the foot of this still-functioning fountain, the work of Cécile Pitois, two simulacra of delicate cushions for making a wish, has given it a destiny as a "lovers' fountain".
