This castle, inhabited since the Renaissance, is known for its 6 magnificent gardens.
Inhabited since the Renaissance, this château is best known for its magnificent gardens. It's easily one of our favorites for its flower beds and the scents that emanate from them. Built around 1536, it is the last of the great châteaux of the Loire - during the Renaissance period. In 1906, Joachim Carvallo became the new owner. He decided to restore the original gardens, which had been transformed into a19th-century English garden. Six gardens can now be discovered on site:
the decorative kitchen garden: designed both for aesthetic purposes and to provide food for the entire château. With its nine squares covering one hectare, there are two plantations, one in winter and one in summer.
the ornamental lounges: located on the second terrace of the gardens, they feature tall boxwoods and flowers.
the water garden: around the central pool.
le jardin du soleil: on the fourth level, created in 2008 and featuring children's play areas.
le jardin des simples: featuring medicinal, aromatic and condiment plants.
the labyrinth: with its sacred symbolism of man's initiatory journey towards God. Children love to play here!
Plus: on-site picnic area, lawn tennis court, accessible walks in the forest overlooking the gardens and year-round events (Nuit des mille feux, Noël au château...).
