DUNGEON OR CAESAR TOWER
Square keep, a typical example of the 11th century in Beaugency, composed of four floors and a timber-framed roof.
This square keep is a typical example of what was done in the 11th century. A last line of defence in the event of an attack on the town, the tower was also intended to be inhabited by successive lords. As architecture evolved, Romanesque windows gave way to mullioned windows, typical of the Renaissance, and fireplaces were added to complete the comfort of the period. At 36 meters high, the keep remains a question mark. It opens up delightful dreams of the city in medieval times.
