THE HOUSE OF SWEDEN
In 2012, after years of twinning with a city north of Gothenburg, a small wooden house typical of the Dasland region in the th century was inaugurated in the centre of Canal. Why Sweden in the heart of Gâtinais? This choice pays tribute to Raoul Nordling, the Swedish Consul General who saved Paris from destruction in August 1944. He had also spent some of his childhood at Canal and was buried there. It is to give a new dimension to intercultural exchanges that the Swedish House was built in the purest respect of environmental standards: Douglas pine for wood, sheep wool for insulation, a plant roof and a Falun red paint, this pigment made from the slag scories of the Falun copper mine in Sweden. It is mainly a place of diverse and varied events (festivals, lectures, lectures…) It is not only ABBA and IKEA in Sweden! Then stop at the Swedish Café, animated by Scandinavian young people within the framework of their EVS (European Volunteer Service) and discover the exhibitions presented in this charming cabin.
