COLIGNY ORANGERY
This magnificent orangery was built in the sixteenth century by Admiral Gaspard II of Coligny. Certainly one of the first in France - in any case the oldest - this 120-meter building is made up of a stonewalling of rooms, for some relatively dark ones, for others illuminated by glassware. The terrace is located on the banks of the Milleron Canal, once lined with French gardens and only one grassland. In front of this orangery, the sculpted well - admirable and classified as a historic monument - is awarded to the sculptor Jean Goujon, particularly because of his ties with the family of Montmorency. Indeed, Louise de Montmorency married Gaspard 1 st of Coligny and was the mother of the famous Admiral, who was odiously murdered in 1572 during religious wars.
