MUSEUM OF GLASS AND ITS TRADES
Museum proposing a discovery of the universe of the glass factories of the Loing valley, with visit by former glassblowers.
It is the only museum in France dedicated to the techniques and products of industrial glass. It invites you to discover the world of glassmaking in the Loing valley, where the specialized industry is still established. Enhanced by a remarkable scenography, the permanent collection is surprising. Several hundred objects are presented on two levels, including Pyrex® bottles and dishes, optical and laboratory instruments, huge lamps and industrial columns. The great stories of Sovirel, Thomson and Corning are also highlighted. The visit, guided by former glass workers, is accompanied by glass-blowing demonstrations, temporary exhibitions and educational activities (reservation required). Glass-blowing demonstrations by former glassblowers take place every first Saturday of the month, but also on Wednesdays and Saturdays during school holidays. Guided tours and demonstrations are organised for groups.
It should be noted that this museum, which opened its doors on 10 May 2006, has benefited from a large private donation of art glassware. The collections are rich with more than 1,500 objects and are growing every day thanks to private donations.
