Carolingian oratory built in 806, with a remarkable Byzantine mosaic, in Germigny-des-Prés.
Unique in France, the Eglise de la Sainte-Trinité has preserved the original parts of a Carolingian-style mosaic installed in the cul-de-four of the oratory's apse. Over 1,200 years old and classified as a historic monument in 1840, it is one of the most visited monuments in the Loiret region. Its similarity to the mosaics of Ravenna suggests that it is the work of a Byzantine mosaicist. The depiction of theArk of the Covenant and a 16th-century pietà reinforce the site's uniqueness. A stamp featuring the oratory's Byzantine mosaic was issued in 2000!
