OLD BRIDGE OR ANNE DE BEAUJEU BRIDGE

Old bridge of 282 m long with 13 arches with a sumptuous humpback, bombed by the enemy aviation.
At 282.16 meters long, the Vieux Pont, dating from 1246, was swept away by the raging Loire in 1456 and rebuilt by Anne de Beaujeu in 1484, hence the double name. From thirteen arches, with basket-handle or semicircular arches, it was reduced to twelve. Somewhat battered during the Second World War, this sumptuous humpback - where a cross dedicated to Saint Nicolas, patron saint of bargemen, is located - is now enjoying better days. Its aesthetics are appreciated.
