ST. LIPARD'S COLLEGE
Collegiate church with 19th century stained glass windows representing Joan of Arc and the dragon slayer saint in Meung-sur-Loire.
Saint Liphard, cousin of Clovis, retired to a hermitage at Meung-sur-Loire in 520. On his death, his companions built a monastery, which became a collegiate church in 1068. Listed as a Historic Monument since 1840, it boasts 19th-century stained-glass windows depicting Joan of Arc and the dragon-slaying saint. Of particular note: a 6th-century sarcophagus, a12th-century chapel dedicated to the Virgin Mary, a 17th-century painted wooden altar, an 18th-century altarpiece, a Gothic nave and an unusual bell tower, not to mention the relics of Saint Liphard..
