LIBRAIRIE LES TEMPS MODERNES
Founded in 1964 by Catherine Zay, the bookshop Les Temps modernes owes its name to Jean-Paul Sartre's review, which accepted this benevolent revival without any hesitation. It has the undeniable charm of working bookshops, of those that are always on the lookout for literary titles and essays that are little recommended elsewhere. Wouldn't that be the primary role of a bookseller, that of informing and proposing? This small space is an extremely rich source of information for anyone with a passion for literature. Above all, we know that a book is first and foremost a material of paper, ink, string and glue... And that this material, these more or less thick "bricks" already whet the appetite for reading. Here, the presentation of the works on display in the window, on the walls, in the staircase, evokes a "Latin Quarter" period that has been definitively revoked, because there was a time when people queued up to buy books... Les Temps modernes is the reference bookstore for writers off the beaten track, attracting many readers, often from the academic and artistic fields. Once a month, a selected writer is invited. It is labelled LIR by the National Book Centre and holds a show at the Orléans theatre on the evenings of performances.
