SAINT AIGNAN'S CRYPT
The Saint-Aignan crypt is a little-known gem of religious architecture.
Still in a very good state of preservation, the Saint-Aignan crypt is one of the most beautiful illustrations of the revival of religious architecture in the year 1000. A place full of mystery to discover at all costs! It is the only vestige of the original church built by Robert the Pious in the 11th century, in order to deposit the relics of Saint Aignan. Consecrated in 1029, the crypt is actually an underground church, where the martyrium holds the relics of the saint. The crypt was originally organized as a church with a large semicircular room, an ambulatory that went around it and served five chapels of which only one remains, still visible today.
