BANNER DOOR
The Bannier Gate is one of the last known remains of the medieval wall of Orléans built between 1486 and 1556.
If you are attentive when you walk on the place du Martroi, a trap door, or rather a large concrete slab, can be lifted thanks to a remote control, in aplomb of the statue of Joan of Arc. It gives access to a staircase which allows to penetrate in the undergrounds of the city. Discovered in 1986, the Bannier Gate is one of the last known remains of the medieval city walls of Orléans, built between 1486 and 1556. This gate - which allowed to go to Paris - is honored every year, on April 29, during the Joan of Arc celebrations. For visits, the tourist office will be happy to take you there. Not to be missed by lovers of history and beautiful stones.
