THE ORLEANS CANAL
This canal is supplied by thirteen ponds with a total surface area of 276 hectares.
Created at the end of the 17th century at the request of the Duc d'Orléans, its first owner, it was completed and inaugurated on March 5, 1692, after sixteen years of construction. It runs for just over 78 kilometers, linking the Loire to the Seine, via the Canal de Briare and the Canal du Loing, two canals it joins at Chalette, near Montargis, at Buges, the lock and junction point of the three canals, a unique location. Along the way, it is fed by thirteen ponds with a total surface area of 276 hectares, forming a veritable paradise for anglers. It is possible to navigate again between Fay-aux-Loges and Combleux, a dozen kilometers apart.
