Castle surrounded by a park and bordered by the Loire River, its collections retrace the era of the good King Henry, a program to choose from.
The first construction of this castle dates back to the early Middle Ages. At the very end of the 14th century, Guy de La Trémoïlle had a vast keep built, surrounded by four circular towers. The castle was then redesigned and embellished by Maximilien de Béthune, Duke of Sully, minister of Henri IV, who acquired it in 1602. A replica of the tomb of Sully and his second wife, Rachel de Cochefilet, is located on the ground floor of the keep. In this castle, Sully came mainly to spend his retirement after the assassination of Henry IV. He wrote and printed his memoirs here. The collections (furniture, paintings, engravings, decorative arts) allow us to discover the era of "good King Henry", whose memory remains attached to this castle. The Psyche hanging, presented in the rooms refurbished in 2007, is a set of six 17th century tapestries telling the story of this goddess whose beauty surpassed that of Venus. The second floor will seduce you with its covered way (the horizon is about ten kilometers away) and its imposing frame with period beams. Illuminated in the evening, the castle, property of the Loiret Departmental Council, is surrounded by a park and bordered by the Loire. In terms of programming, the castle comes alive every year with unmissable events such as the Historical Hours (in May), the Sully and Loiret Music Festival (May-June), the theatrical and musical summer show (in July and August), not forgetting the Sange Festival (early September), the Heritage Days and the All Saints' Day and Christmas shows. And, in the meantime, you can take advantage of the new features: visit of the unusual parts of the castle with "Investigation in the castle", visit with lanterns, theatrical visit for groups and "Celebrate your birthday in the castle", without forgetting the various creative workshops offered during each school holiday period such as "Discovering tapestry".
