CHÂTEAU DE CORNAY
Castle with details that evoke the stone carving and the viticulture, two of the main activities of the village
Owned by the Pouilly family, this Renaissance-style castle was built at the beginning of the 17th century from Gaize rubble from a nearby quarry, a stone typical of the Argonne region with an astonishing yellow colour. It was profoundly altered in the 19th and early 20th centuries, while preserving its original style: mullioned windows, neo-Gothic curves, bas-relief shells.... There are also details that evoke stone carving and viticulture, two of the village's main activities in the 19th century. In the 1920s, Jean Pouilly, grandfather of the current owner, recovered Jean-Baptiste Noailles' 1830 sculptures and put them up on a door of the château: the winegrower's door, one of the entrances to the south-east square tower.
