MUSEUM OF REMEMBRANCE AND THE CAVE OF GAULIER
On August 31, 1944, in retreat to Germany, the Darnand militiamen murdered ten Résistants in this cave at Gaulier. The museum recalls the various conflicts that France, and more particularly Floing, crossed from 1870 to 1945. Built between the th and th centuries, the church Saint-Rémi is a good example of the defensive system in place in this border area. The choir, which represented the main part of the whole, was a real castle, with walls more than a metre thick. The steeple, the second strong point of the defensive system, presents openings, murderers and a chimney: more a dungeon than a clocher. Gaulier is also the place where the tanks of Guderian crossed the Meuse on May 13, 1940, between Broken Oak and the courtyard of the factory of Hope, act that will remain in history under the name "Breakthrough of Sedan".
