NICHE CAVES
Cave constituting one of the main tourist attractions of the region, comprising 3 levels of which 2 are accessible to the public
Considered the most marvellous geological curiosity in the Ardennes, this cave dug into the Givet limestone is one of the region's main tourist attractions, open since... 1896. It comprises 3 levels, 2 of which are open to the public. The 9 rooms open to visitors - Salle des Nutons, Salle du Squelette, Salle du Théâtre, etc. - feature a wealth of concretions. - you'll see numerous concretions - animals or figures emerging from the rock - a rock suspended as if by magic, and a column 3 million years old! Numerous animal tracks have been revealed: mammoth, aurochs and Nichet pheasant, which gave the caves their name. It is also likely that these caves were occupied by humans in prehistoric times. It's advisable to bundle up for the visit, as the average temperature is 6°C. From the Hall of the Nutons - little beings with magical powers - you enter the Hall of the Abyss, where the first traces of human occupation can be seen, then the Hall of the Lion, named after the shape of a concretion, followed by the Hall of Moonlight, the Hall of Lovers, where the silhouette of a couple can be seen.
