THE CASTLE OF YESTERDAYGES
The ruins of this castle are well preserved and surrounded by beautiful gardens
The charming village of Hierges nestles at the foot of a castle whose first fortifications date 840. Originally named the Jerusalem Castle, it was built in one night by the fée Mélusine according to the legend, and had 365 windows… Destroyed in the sixteenth century, then in 1555, this ensemble composed an outstanding example of the architecture of the Mosane Renaissance. The ruins are well preserved, surrounded by beautiful gardens and, thanks to guided tours, you will have no difficulty in marrying the Rocambolesque history of the building. A defensive role put him at risk many times, it was even a subject of struggle between Charles Quint and François Ier. Between intrigues and power struggles, Hierges is a site to see!
