LIGNE MAGINOT - OUVRAGE DE LA FERTÉ
An impressive concrete and steel fort to visit, following in the footsteps of the men who sacrificed their lives for their country.
This visit, 25 meters underground, takes you to an impressive vestige of the Maginot Line: the ouvrage de la Ferté. In May 1940, the fort's entire garrison of 107 men perished as a result of asphyxiation during the fighting. A veritable path of remembrance, the visit follows in the footsteps of the men who sacrificed their lives for their country in this concrete and steel edifice with its two combat blocks, one of which is still equipped with its anti-tank gun. There are still some rare reminders of the daily lives of these soldiers, such as a beautiful stove made by the wealthy Ardennes industrialist Arthur Martin.
