Carignan was once surrounded by ten bastions and two doors. The dashes and bastions were completely surmounted by a crenellated wall, partially conserved near the old guard body of the Burgundy Door. The doors disappeared in the last century, but seven bastions still remain. A circuit of the ramparts that can be walked on foot is indicated on the spot.
