THE GARDENS OF THE ABBEY
These French-style pleasure gardens replace the abbey's kitchen garden
Located partly on the old ditches of the church, these French-style gardens replace the abbey garden of the abbey, formerly cultivated by the monks. With ancient ditches bordering the urban wall until 1671, there is still a piece of water that is being fought by a bridge defending two stone lions. Of the four statues representing the four seasons, there is only Cérès, the goddess of Rich harvests, fruit of sculptor A. Lefèvre in 1781. Each year a floral decoration is made by the gardener of the retirement house and develops alternately different themes composed of various plant elements: tuyas, box boxes, apple trees, plum trees, annual flowers, flowering and rose flowers.
