Visit the church of Saint-Medard, to admire a magnificent black marble mausoleum with a baldachin and statues of the four virtues
Classified as a historical monument since 1911, Saint-Médard church was constantly modified and enriched from the 13th century to the 17th century. Behind its portal and its 13th century tower, you will find the mausoleum of the Counts of Joyeuse - mainly Claude de Joyeuse who died in 1629, and his wife. This magnificent mausoleum is made of black canopy marble, decorated with ionic columns and statues of the four virtues. The beauty of the building justified a major restoration financed by the state, as the stained glass windows were destroyed during the war. It is now equipped with splendid panels, including that of the western portal designed by the Algerian artist Hamid Tibouchi. Saint-Médard has regained all its light.
