ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHURCH
The sepullire of this gleam makes it a real showcase of the art of champenois and Italian art. The parish of Chaource is famous for two sculptures of the fabulous xvie: the "tomb" of the master of Chaource, and a golden wood crèche, probably the oldest in France. The 1515 sepcil is a masterpiece of the Trojan School. Can we imagine more pain and truthfulness, more tenderness and sincerity, more emotion and authenticity than those translated on these frozen, humble, inclined faces? Can we be more concerned about the presence of the three guards who seem to be epitomizing each of your actions? The author's signature is found - a plantain foot - throughout the department, from pietà from Bayel to Saint Marthe de la Madeleine to Troyes. The church also houses a museum of Champenoise sculpture, comparable to the museum in Saint-Pantaléon, Troyes. The other treasure of this church remains the carved wooden organ buffet (end xviie), the torsa columns and the instrumental part, work of Louis Le Bé (1698), both inherited from the Benedictine abbey of Montiéramey. Renovated in 1976, it is also the object of all the attention at the organ festival.
