ST. PIERRE-ET-SAINT-PAUL CHURCH

The church of Dampierre owes its surprising dimensions (44 m long out of 20) to the local lords. Its architecture mixes the times: the choir and the abside date from the late nineteenth century or the beginning of the thirteenth century, the nef and the sides of the late fifteenth century and the heavy tower of the seventeenth century. In addition, the Western portal is a fine example of the flamboyant architecture on which the Trinity, Saint Pierre and a bishop can be seen. Go further, in the church, to discover the tomb of the glove of Pierre de Lannoy, baron of Dampierre, attributed to the master of Chaource (see columns Chaource, Bayel and Sainte-Madeleine de Troyes) and numerous sculptures of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries including a Virgin to the child. Unfortunately, these wood sculptures deserve rehabilitation, and this is proving difficult despite several subscriptions. The stained glass windows, long stored at the castle of Champs-sur-Marne (Seine-et-Marne), have been restored since 1978.
