At the beginning it was an experience of the Mayor of Nontron, Pierre Giry. Because of success, it became a tradition, and after having occupied the Espace Paul-Bert the crafts found their own place. The objective of the Experimental Pôle d'art de Nontron is to support the economic and cultural development of the Crafts sector in Nontron, in the territories of the country Nontronnais, the Regional Natural Park Perigord-Limousin and the Country of Périgord Vert. This development covers the trades of heritage restoration, tradition and creative trades. Three types of companies are involved, the very small workshops, small and medium-sized enterprises and the luxury industries in the art sector. The Cluster organizes thematic exhibitions devoted to art professions throughout the year, showcasing contemporary creations from ancestral know-how. they take place in a th century castle, overlooking the Bandiat valley and the Gardens of the Arts. The castle also houses the Lames and Metals area where the knives are organized.
