PARACLETE ABBEY

To date, the Paraclet (the name of the third person of the Trinity), the abbey erected in the xiith century by Pierre Abélard, will survive only through your imagination and the legend it carries. The abbatial logis of the eighteenth and eighteenth centuries and the pretty farmhouse of the xviie, flanked by two round towers with a beautiful circular pigeon, are unfortunately open to the public only exceptionally. The castle was established on the location of the old abbey. A small obelisk recalls romally the place where the two lovers, Héloses and Abélard, were buried, whose tragic history continues to live in these places. A teacher in Paris, Pierre Abélard is given by Canon Fulbert, uncle of Héloses, the education of the young girl aged 18. He was 40 years old and earned his pupil's favors. A boy was born from their union, named Astrolab. Despite a secret marriage, they soon know the cracks of separation. Héloïse is retreating to the convent of Argenteuil. Their union does not, however, appease the fury of Uncle Fulbert, who engages in revenge by emulating the too brilliant seductor while Héloïsis covers the veil. The terrible punishment puts an end to their common life and separates them from their love. Abélard leads a wandering life, lives in a hermit in a wild valley. It is there, near Nogent-sur-Seine, that he founded the Abbey of the Paraclet. He leaves this world in 1142 and his body is transported to the Paraclet. Heloses joins him 22 years later. They have now left their tomb with the religious ultimate and their remains lie in the 7 th Division of Père Lachaise, united in a single grave. Every summertime, doors open: the visit lasts about half an hour.
