CASTLE OF THE MOTTE-TILLY
This castle, built in 1754 for the abbot Terray, is an essential stop for tourists in the Nogentais
A milestone for tourists in Nogentais, the Motte-Tilly castle was built in 1754 for Father Terray, the future financial controller of Louis XV. Damaged during the French Revolution and then during the fall of the Empire, he owes his renaissance to Count Gérard de Rohan-Chabot. As early as 1910, he began the restoration of this monument typical of the Enlightenment, and his daughter, Marqulé de Maillé, will complete his work by reconstituting furnishings and interior decoration. Over the 77 pieces (of which 24 are open to the public), the atmosphere prevailed in the eighteenth century. The parkway in the 62 hectare park, along the way, is most romantic, even though the 1999 storm has made extensive damage. The balance, elegance and harmony of architecture give this place a relaxing appearance. The calm, the alleys, the peacocks and the swans make the refinement continue. From now on, many events occur the year before your visit: autumn salon, drawing workshops offered to children, and during the Heritage Days, shuttle tours between the castle, Camille Claudel Museum or Nogent Central.
