RESISTANCE MUSEUM

This museum, created in 1967 by the eponymous association, has since perpetuated the memories of the Resistance fighters who fought for France in this region in June 1944. The work undertaken in 2019-2020 concerns the expansion of the premises and their modernization, but also the enrichment of the collections with a strong emphasis on interactivity so that the exhibitions tell their story to the visitor.

In particular, the history of the Mussy-Grancey Resistance led by Major Emile Alagiraude, alias Montcalm, which was one of the most important maquis in France, is presented. Major Bernet, known as Marceau, led the First Company of the Maquis, which numbered nearly 2,000 men on August 25, 1944 (there were only about 200 at the beginning) when they participated alongside the Allies in the liberation of the city of Troyes. This museum displays equipment, deportee outfits, photographs and posters of the Resistance as well as flags of the Montcalm secret army and the 131st infantry regiment. In close correlation with the museum, the Association des Chemins de Mémoire proposes walking itineraries in the company of a storytelling guide: designed to cover the emblematic places of the three days of fighting on August 2, 3 and 4, 1944, they also explain the life and military training that made the daily life very intense for the young maquisards, most of whom were between 18 and 25.
