LARGE MILLS

The big mills go back to the beginning of the last century, providing flour to the inhabitants of the city as well as those of the region. The Nogentais came to grind the grain against the payment of the right to fly. Unfortunately, this hydraulic mill holding five vannages was affected by a fire in 1907. Eight months later, new mills, including an integrated safety system (a water tank hidden in a tower), designed by the Romillon architect Arthur-Charles Clément, rose over the river. In 1994, the Soufflet group, the first French maltor, bought the mills to the Bouygues group to install laboratories and a research hall. From now on you can see the gigantic wheels on the ground floor. An impressive overview of the impressive industrial heritage!
