ST. AVIT'S CHAPEL
A few words about Saint-Avit, this chapel in the heart of the Aixois, the elegant silhouette and the encircled beams, rare in the department. In the twelfth century Aix-en-Othe became a episcopal seigneury attached to the bishop of Troyes. The bishop holds an imposing castle and a church dedicated to Saint Avit. The population was spread over a fairly large territory, but houses were grouped around the chapel, the heart of the village until the sixteenth century. This patron saint is always celebrated today, Sunday following June 17. Today the chapel of the sixteenth century is disaffected and no longer visit, but from the outside you can always admire its geometrical windows, creation of Alain Vinum, famous master-orchard of the region.
