Basilica of Saint-Urbain in Troyes, built with finesse, verticality and lightness, by order of Pope Urban IV
This church, one of ten in Troyes, bears the name of the Trojan pope Jacques Pantaléon, who became Urbain IV. Construction began on the collegiate church in 1262, and continued into the 14th century, with the façade not being completed until the early 20th century. According to experts, it is one of the three most perfect Gothic buildings in the world. Built in the Champagne Radiant Gothic style, the Basilica of Saint-Urbain was commissioned by Pope Urbain IV between 1262 and 1286. Saint-Urbain is built with finesse, verticality and lightness.
