One of the most important museums, freshly renovated and housing superb collections of paintings and other works of art.
After 4 years of closure, the Musée d'Art Moderne de Troyes underwent a facelift and reopened on April 16, 2024. It now welcomes the public in spaces that have been renovated to showcase its collections even more effectively. New features include a completely redesigned museum garden with a stroll around contemporary art, a new space to host temporary exhibitions and, above all, the entire building has been brought up to standard to accommodate people with reduced mobility. Located on the cathedral square, in the sumptuous setting of the former episcopal palace built in the 16th and 17th centuries, the M.A.M. was created in 1982 following a donation of over 2,000 works by a wealthy industrial couple from Troyes, Pierre and Denise Lévy. From the realism of Courbet to the works of Modigliani, via the fauvism of Braque and the cubism of Gris, an exciting journey through art from the second half of the 19th to the first half of the 20th century awaits you. Not forgetting the work of painter André Derain and glassmaker Maurice Marinot, both friends of the Lévys. Finally, aficionados of African and Oceanic art will be delighted to know that the M.A.M. also boasts an exceptional collection on the subject. Visit the website for the schedule of temporary exhibitions and other activities. Last but not least, the museum is free between November and March. Without a doubt, this is one of the city's finest museums to (re)discover!
