SEPTFONTAINER ABBEY
A remarkable abbey in a pleasant setting, suitable for visiting or meditating for the spiritual, various animations.
Septfontaines Abbey and its surroundings form a magnificent site, ideal for a visit or meditation for the more spiritual among us. Like all religious buildings of this size, the abbey was of vital importance not only to Andelot, but also to the region, since abbeys symbolized power and possessed immense wealth. Septfontaines abbey was founded in the 13th century and was inhabited and managed by the Prémontrés order. It had, as we said, established missions: to provide hospitality and help the poor. The abbey benefited from the protection of the Counts of Champagne, which enabled it to develop. The site grew in size and power, giving rise to the village of Blancheville and the abbey of Mureau. In 1299, Philippe le Bel and his wife consecrated the abbey a "Royal Abbey". Alas, the beautiful abbey suffered extensive damage during the wars, and underwent two major renovations. Fortunately, in the 19th century, Count Ducos bought the abbey and gave it a new lease of life, restoring and adding to its original features. It's thanks to him and his descendants that this marvel can be discovered today. A visit not to be missed, with events such as "apéro casse-croûte", baroque concerts...
