The château was built by the Princess of Orleans for Louis Philippe
The château we admire today was built by the Princess of Orléans for Louis-Philippe in a Neo-Renaissance style that is extremely rare in the region. Princess Adélaïde embellished the site by adding water features, stables and staff accommodation. In 1873, her son, the Prince de Joinville, added an original ice house, which still exists today. It was also this prince who transformed the old forge into a sawmill in 1858, and equipped it with an 80-horsepower steam engine.
