CISTERCIAN ABBEY OF AUBERIVE
Cistercian abbey of Auberive with a park, having undergone several transformations, now a center of contemporary art
The site of the abbey offers 887 years of French history. Created in 1135 on the banks of the Aube, it is the 24th daughter of Clairvaux. Destroyed during the Hundred Years War, then rebuilt, it was transformed during the Revolution into a beautiful residence surrounded by a park. The abbey became a women's prison in 1856, requisitioned during the Second World War, a vacation camp in 1960, and then bought back in 2004 by the Volot family. It is now a center for contemporary art.
