FOUNTAIN OF THE PETE BÊTE
Inscribed on the historic monuments from February 1, 1929, this round fountain in the heart of the village surprises. It represents an animal monster, the Beast-Beast, a chimera with a dragon and a sphinx position and whose water flows from the crows. It was realized in 1836 according to drawings of the architect Lansime Luquet, probably inspired by a Burrer engraving. Some link it to a fantastic legend haute marnaise, others see it as a symbol of victorious paganism on Christianity… Note that other gurgles and lagoons adorn this beautiful village of Aujeurres.
