HOUSE OF BASKETRY
House that shows the innovative use of basketry in Fayl-Billot.
The Maison de la Vannerie is the place to be to understand the historical, technical, cultural and educational dimension of this art. The culture and work of wicker have been practiced for over 3 centuries in Fayl-Billot. Unique in France, this type of centre was built in the former 17th century post house, on three floors. There is an exhibition of local know-how: traditional basketry objects, an exhibition on rattan. The house also shows the innovative use that can be made of basketry: plant architecture, design creations, contemporary or utilitarian. Finally, a 30-minute video recounts the adventure of the basket and wickerwork trades. Fayl-Billot has the only national school of osiericulture and basketry. The town has been awarded the Ville et Métiers d'Art label.
