GUDMONT CASTLE
This beautiful seigneurial remains is hidden in the wooded valley between Saint-Dizier and Chaumont. The castle has been in the same family for five centuries, it has been open to the public only since 2010 and is inscribed in the supplementary inventory of Historical Monuments. If you go to meet, you will find that this castle has its place in this prestigious classification. Chevalier Guillaume de Thélin, secretary of Claude de Lorraine, first duke of Guise, bought this castle, then the church, in 1546. In this way, the Knight and his family have the magnificent decorations of the monument, frescoes of Italian Renaissance artists, which give the castle a less austere character than its architecture suggests. The rooms are beautiful, the ceilings are painted (allegories of seasons and virtues) and well preserved. You will be able to admire these ornamented ceilings, segmented by warden vaults, and will make a journey over time by browsing through its massive pieces to the antique furniture, in a green setting… The castle participates, of course, in the Heritage Days in September. We travel in the history of Gudmont!
