THE TOWERS OF NAVARRE AND ORVAL

Built between 1511 and 1519 at the request of François I, on a land held by the counts of Champagne and kings of Navarre (hence its name), this defensive ensemble stands out by its chestnut frame, its spiral ramp which allowed to mount the pieces of artillery, its rooms voting and casemates. It is a typical Renaissance architecture, the theme celebrated in 2018. This tower of artillery, the largest in the city, with walls of seven meters thick, a diameter of 28 m, a height of twenty meters and some twenty shooting embroidered on four levels impresses. So many details make it an extraordinary work. With its vaults, the Tower of Navarre is a magical place. The city has made it a museum space: Playful and pedagogical pathway, audio audioguide, video and light games will make you relive the history of these high ladies. The rumor is that François 1 ^st, intrepid, is mounted there on horseback. Do not hesitate to visit Langres with your smartphone, the city having designed a nice multimedia program.
