PAILLY CASTLE
Château du Pailly built on the site of a former feudal castle, its internal parts reflect the refinement of the Renaissance
A Renaissance of Renaissance in Champagne: a sumptuous castle built on the site of an ancient feudal castle, which remains in the dungeon and tower towers. Guites and curves intertwine according to a learned architecture. It was built between 1563 and 1573 for Gaspard de Saulx de Tavannes, a companion of arms of François I. The castle now consists of 3 u wings and is dominated by a 23 m dungeon. The internal parts, around the courtyard of honor, reflect the refinement of the Renaissance. The mortal appearance of the dungeon contrasts with the gaiety of the Italian castle's Italian trait. He has the particularity of being vaulted upstairs. To discover: the Midi wing, the sumptuous architecture of the entrance pavilion, the captain's room and its frescoes, the Golden Room… Both gardens are equally elegant: one is regular surrounded by lineups carved into marquise, the other is a romantic park composed of a hill covered with local trees. It is decorated with a circular basin from which eight median alleys extend. Classified as a historic monument in 1921, it became the property of the state in 1963. In addition to the visits, there are animations in the year. Stop for a moment, for the heritage days, but also the artisanal market, or the painting contest.
